How to paint Squats

2017-04-01 Khaiell

With the Gathering Storm series of books players can enjoy putting power armour, light infantry and sophisticated technology of the Adeptus Mechanicus all in one army. You could have been enjoying the same concoction for 30 years by playing Squats. I will show you how I paint my "Honourable Guild of Plasmaniacs"

Squats wait to be eaten by Tyranids on a volcanic planet

Basecoat

  • Troll Slayer Orange for coats and plasma heat sinks
  • Mournfang Brown for boots, belts, straps &c.
  • Genestealer Purple for contrast on cloaths
  • Kantor Blue for weapons
  • Yriel Yellow for decorations
  • Bestigor Flesh for Squat skin

Shading

Before applying shades I always varnish my models which helps the paint flow smoothly to crevices

  • Agrax Earthshade on yellow and orange
  • Reikland Fleshshade on Squat skin
  • Druchi Violet on purple
  • Baal Red on plasma heatsinks
  • Nuln Oil on the rest

Highlights

  • Brown and skin areas are highlighted with Skrag Brown
  • Blue weapon parts get a treatment of Calgar Blue
  • The rest is highlighted using a mixture of their base colour with Vallejo Aged White
