How to chose realistic horse manes for your units

Horses may have many different colours. However, contrary to what many people believe, they are not entirely random. Mane properties are defined by a finite set of pretty well known genes. Let the machine spirit pick them for you!

Mane-o-matic

Just like my hair-o-matic made untold ranks and files of troops look good, the mane-o-matic promises to do the same for noble mounts.

It randomly chooses mane colours out of a pool of some realistic, popular ones:

  • Chestnut
  • Bay
  • Black
  • Gray
  • Palomino
  • Dun

Black is one of the challenging colours as how you add darker shades to something that is technically as dark as things go? Fortunately real world objects are not perfect quantum black bodies and are actually grey so the trick is to find a shade of grey that will make our brains think its black. For me it's Vallejo 306 Dark Rubber from the Panzer Aces line. »

A swamp and its family and relations are rarely seen and that is a pity as they offers interesting strategic challenges. Seem to favour static armies with a lot of guns where in fact it can also become a deadly trap if the enemy manages to outflank you? »
